about adapt

Our history
adapt
began in 2001 as the independent provider of IT and network services

adapt's founding principle is that it is a customer led business such that appropriate technology solutions will be delivered which can only achieved through maintaining independence from infrastructure suppliers and carriers. To date adapt has rigidly maintained this proposition and by doing so has developed an impressive customer base enabling the company to achieve phenomenal growth.

The business was founded as Mnet (later rebranded adapt) just before the turn of the millennium by Peter Knight, who is CEO, as the IT services division of a larger business and he then led a management buy-out of the division in 2006. This transaction not only gave the business independence but it also provided a platform for it to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities within the IT services marketplace.

The adapt brand was adopted in early 2007 to reflect the key differentiator of the business in its market namely that it was a business that was flexible towards the needs of its customers and would avoid investment in technology that would prejudice its service offering. Whilst the company has built up a significant portfolio of technical real estate over the last decade this central philosophy has been retained.

The other major development during 2007 was the acquisition of Centric Telecom, a privately owned independent network services provider to the corporate market. This acquisition doubled the revenues of the group and considerable operating synergies were generated between the two businesses as well as achieving critical mass. In certain markets the Centric Telecom brand has been maintained and the plan since acquisition has been to grow this business through a more focussed strategy as well as investment.

Latterly the group has concentrated on developing its Managed Services capabilities and this has been achieved through two other corporate events. Firstly the Managed Services division of News International, Centre Core, was integrated into the group in mid 2008 giving the business a step change in its technical and operational competencies. Secondly a non-core subsidiary was divested in 2008 allowing management and resources to be directed at developing the group's Managed Services business.

In 2009 adapt's success was recognised for the third consecutive year in the prestigious Sunday Times Tech Track 100 league table which lists the fastest growing privately owned TMT businesses in the UK.
